ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a major salary review for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, with some officers and soldiers expected to receive salary increases of up to 80 percent.
The landmark approval is part of the Federal Government's renewed commitment to improving the welfare of military personnel, enhancing operational efficiency, and strengthening the nation's security architecture.
The revised salary structure is expected to benefit about 250,000 members of the Armed Forces and will take effect from September 1, 2026.
Government officials say the salary increase goes beyond financial relief. It is designed to boost morale, reward the sacrifices of military personnel, improve retention, and reinforce the capacity of the Armed Forces in tackling terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats across the country.
The development has been widely viewed as one of the most significant welfare packages for the Nigerian military in recent years, reflecting the administration's determination to place greater priority on the welfare and effectiveness of the nation's security forces.
Analysts believe the enhanced remuneration, alongside continued investments in military equipment, training, and logistics, will further strengthen the Armed Forces' ability to safeguard Nigeria's territorial integrity and protect citizens.
