From Spotlight African Reporters 26th September 2026 Former Super Eagles midfielder Sani Kaita has described Victor Osimhen’s absence from Nigeria’s squad as a major setback ahead of the Super Eagles’ international friendly against Russia in October. Kaita, a former Nigeria international, said Osimhen’s presence would have provided the national team with additional attacking strength and experience as the Super Eagles prepare for the encounter. Osimhen has established himself as one of Nigeria’s key attacking players, and his absence means the team could have to rely on other forwards to lead the line against the Russians. Military Launches Fresh Offensive Against North-West Terrorists

Abuja, Nigeria — August 14, 2026 The Nigerian military has launched a fresh offensive against terrorists and armed criminal groups operating across the North-West, with security forces stepping up coordinated ground and air operations under Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV. The operation is being conducted by the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, and is aimed at disrupting terrorist networks, degrading their operational capabilities, cutting off their movements and logistics, and preventing them from establishing new footholds in communities across the region. According to the Theatre Command’s Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the offensive has already resulted in intensified military activities in parts of Katsina and Zamfara states. In Katsina State, troops of Sector 2 conducted a clearance operation on August 12 around suspected terrorist enclaves in Dutsinma Local Government Area. According to the police, the illegal network manufactured counterfeit number plates that were allegedly used by criminals to evade security checkpoints, gain unauthorized access to restricted government facilities, and carry out unlawful activities while posing as government officials or members of the diplomatic community.
