Kaita, a former Nigeria international, said Osimhen’s presence would have provided the national team with additional attacking strength and experience as the Super Eagles prepare for the encounter. Osimhen has established himself as one of Nigeria’s key attacking players, and his absence means the team could have to rely on other forwards to lead the line against the Russians. The former midfielder noted that games against strong opposition such as Russia provide important opportunities for the Super Eagles to assess their squad and build toward future international assignments. Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has granted a pardon to controversial native doctor Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, and set him on a new path of youth reorientation.
Nwangwu, who was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison by the High Court sitting in Awka, had about 11 months remaining on his sentence after part of the term was counted concurrently with time already spent in custody. 
Governor Soludo announced the pardon on Friday, September 18, 2026, during a visit to the Correctional Centre in Amawbia.
As part of the conditions surrounding Nwangwu's rehabilitation, he is expected to serve as an ambassador for youth reorientation, renounce Oke-ite and related charm practices, and publicly discourage youths from engaging in such practices.
Nwangwu's arrest followed the Anambra State Government's wider crackdown on activities involving native doctors and spiritualists that authorities said were linked to criminality, fraudulent practices and the use of charms.
The court had also ordered the demolition of his shrine as part of the sanctions imposed following his conviction. 
The governor said the pardon was part of a broader effort to support the welfare and rehabilitation of inmates while encouraging positive transformation.
The development marks a significant turn in Nwangwu's case, moving him from a convicted native doctor serving a prison sentence to a figure expected to participate in efforts aimed at reorienting young people in Anambra State.
