ABUJA — September 10, 2026 — Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has stressed the importance of agricultural mechanisation in transforming the nation’s agricultural sector, saying it is critical to empowering women, attracting young people into farming and strengthening Nigeria’s food security. Oluremi Tinubu said modern farming methods and access to mechanised equipment would help reduce the physical burden associated with agriculture while improving productivity and making farming more attractive to the younger generation. BREAKING NEWS: Adeleke Receives Certificate of Return, Unveils N500m Fund for Election Violence Victims

OSOGBO — Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following his victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The certificate was presented to Adeleke on Wednesday, August 19, at the INEC office in Osogbo, formally confirming his re-election for another four-year term.
In a major announcement during the ceremony, Adeleke unveiled a ₦500 million Election Violence Victims Endowment Fund aimed at supporting verified victims and families affected by pre-election violence in the state.
The governor also announced that children of victims would receive scholarships through the Springtime Development Foundation, with the support extending to university level.
Adeleke used the occasion to call for healing, unity and cooperation among political leaders and supporters following the election.
He said the certificate belonged not only to him but to the people of Osun State, including workers, traders, youths, traditional and religious leaders, and other citizens who participated in the democratic process.
The governor also extended an olive branch to his former political opponents, urging them to join hands with his administration to move the state forward.
Adeleke defeated his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, with 511,067 votes against 444,815 votes, according to the declared results.
The governor said the new fund was intended to ensure that families affected by political violence are not forgotten, while reinforcing his administration's commitment to peace and democratic stability in Osun State.

Niger Police Arrest 147 Suspects, Recover Weapons and Cannabis in Statewide Raids

August 14, 2026 The Niger State Police Command has arrested 147 suspects in separate operations targeting criminal hideouts, alleged thuggery and other criminal activities across the state. According to the command, 139 suspects were arrested during raids in Suleja and surrounding areas following an alleged violent rally. Among those arrested, 64 suspects were reportedly found in possession of suspected cannabis, dangerous weapons and four live cartridges. The 64 suspects were subsequently arraigned and remanded in a correctional centre over alleged offences including criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and possession of dangerous weapons. In a separate operation in Minna, police operatives arrested eight suspected thugs during raids on criminal hideouts in the Talakawa area of Tunga.
