Oluremi Tinubu said modern farming methods and access to mechanised equipment would help reduce the physical burden associated with agriculture while improving productivity and making farming more attractive to the younger generation. UMUAHIA — Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has explained why his administration deliberately avoids interfering with the operations of security agencies in the state, saying professionalism, coordination and respect for institutional responsibilities are critical to maintaining security.
Otti’s position comes amid renewed efforts by the Abia State Government to strengthen cooperation with security agencies and improve the state’s security architecture.
The governor’s administration has maintained that security agencies must be allowed to perform their statutory duties without political interference, while the state government provides the necessary support and creates an environment that enables them to operate effectively.
The approach is being complemented by stronger communication and coordination between the government and security agencies. The Abia State Government recently reaffirmed its commitment to deeper collaboration, particularly in information sharing, public enlightenment and security communication.
Government officials said the administration’s investments in security and its cooperation with relevant agencies have contributed to the peaceful atmosphere being experienced in parts of the state.
The state has also continued to provide logistical and institutional support to security agencies as part of efforts to strengthen their operational capacity.
Otti’s administration maintains that government support should strengthen security agencies rather than dictate their professional operations, allowing them to respond to threats based on intelligence and their established mandates.

Niger Police Arrest 147 Suspects, Recover Weapons and Cannabis in Statewide Raids

August 14, 2026 The Niger State Police Command has arrested 147 suspects in separate operations targeting criminal hideouts, alleged thuggery and other criminal activities across the state. According to the command, 139 suspects were arrested during raids in Suleja and surrounding areas following an alleged violent rally. Among those arrested, 64 suspects were reportedly found in possession of suspected cannabis, dangerous weapons and four live cartridges. The 64 suspects were subsequently arraigned and remanded in a correctional centre over alleged offences including criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and possession of dangerous weapons. In a separate operation in Minna, police operatives arrested eight suspected thugs during raids on criminal hideouts in the Talakawa area of Tunga.
