Nigeria’s New Ambassador to Sudan Presents Credentials, Vows to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

KHARTOUM, Sudan — August 31, 2026: Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Sudan, Yakubu Nyaku Danladi, has formally presented his letters of credence to the President of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council, General Abdalfattah Al-Burhan Abdalrahman, marking the beginning of his diplomatic assignment in the country.
The ceremony was held at the Republican Palace in Khartoum and was followed by bilateral discussions between Ambassador Danladi and the Sudanese leader.
During the engagement, Danladi reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to maintaining and deepening the longstanding friendship and bilateral relations between Nigeria and Sudan.
The Nigerian envoy also reiterated Nigeria’s support for the peace, stability and sovereignty of Sudan, while advocating for an inclusive national dialogue as a viable pathway toward ending the ongoing hostilities in the country.
Ambassador Danladi pledged to work toward expanding cooperation between Nigeria and Sudan across critical sectors, including trade, investment, education, culture, security and people-to-people relations.
A major focus of the diplomatic engagement was the welfare of Nigerians residing in Sudan. Danladi appealed to the Sudanese authorities to continue providing protection and safe passage for Nigerian citizens in the country, stressing that Nigeria places great importance on the safety and wellbeing of its nationals abroad.
The presentation of credentials followed Danladi’s earlier submission of the copies d’usage of his letters of credence to Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohieldin Salim Ahmed Ibrahim, in Khartoum.
Nigeria and Sudan have maintained longstanding historical, economic, cultural and people-to-people ties. Ambassador Danladi is expected to build on these relations, advance Nigeria’s foreign-policy objectives and promote stronger cooperation between both countries.
His diplomatic assignment comes at a significant period for Sudan, with efforts continuing to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict and restore stability in the country.

Niger Police Arrest 147 Suspects, Recover Weapons and Cannabis in Statewide Raids

August 14, 2026 The Niger State Police Command has arrested 147 suspects in separate operations targeting criminal hideouts, alleged thuggery and other criminal activities across the state. According to the command, 139 suspects were arrested during raids in Suleja and surrounding areas following an alleged violent rally. Among those arrested, 64 suspects were reportedly found in possession of suspected cannabis, dangerous weapons and four live cartridges. The 64 suspects were subsequently arraigned and remanded in a correctional centre over alleged offences including criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and possession of dangerous weapons. In a separate operation in Minna, police operatives arrested eight suspected thugs during raids on criminal hideouts in the Talakawa area of Tunga.
